Habitual car thief busted again in stolen car
POUGHKEEPSIE – Thirty-three-year-old Franz Bakter was arrested by City of Poughkeepsie police on Saturday night in possession of a stolen vehicle.  The LaGrange resident was also arrested by city police on Friday afternoon while in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Police say Bakter stole a car in the city earlier in the day.  While on routine patrol Saturday night, police observed the stolen vehicle being operated by Bakter on Worrall Avenue.  Police performed a traffic stop and took the subject into custody without incident.  He was processed at police headquarters and issued an appearance ticket for possession of a stolen vehicle.
The vehicle had not been damaged and was returned to the registered owner.
On Friday, Bakter and an accomplice were caught by city cops in a vehicle stolen at a Town of Poughkeepsie location.  Both men were charged by city police for possession of stolen property.  The two men were also charged by town police.  During Friday night’s incident, it was discovered that Bakter was also wanted by the Wappingers Falls police on larceny charges.
City of Poughkeepsie police are reminding motorists to secure their vehicles and remove the keys when not in operation.
