GOSHEN – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists Orange County as having a high rate of transmission of the COVID-19 virus, County Health Commissioner Dr. Irina Gelman says.

She said positive cases have increased significantly in recent days.

“The department is aware that clusters are on the rise again and there are multiple work places with positive employees. We have doubled in our positive cases per day as well as doubled in our vaccine breakthrough numbers I terms of COVID positives in terms of fully vaccinated individuals,” she said.

Dr. Gelman said her department continues to track COVID clusters in nursing homes and businesses.

As of December 1, Orange County has had 62,195 cases from the beginning of the pandemic. Since the last report in mid-November, that includes 3,000 new cases since the last report.

In October, there were 17 deaths in October and 11 in November.
