Elderly pedestrian killed while crossing street

BEACON – City of Beacon Police are investigating a Wednesday, December 1st accident that claimed the life of 75-year-old Carla Giuffrida of Beacon.  The accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street and Teller Avenue at approximately 3:15 p.m.

 

The initial police report indicates that Giuffrida was at the intersection, waiting to cross eastbound on Teller Avenue.  When the light turned green for Main Street traffic, she began to cross Teller Avenue, in the crosswalk.  A Jeep, driven by 59-year-old Jacqueline Malinick had been stopped at the red light on Main Street, traveling westbound.  When the light turned green, Malinick turned left onto Teller Avenue, striking Giuffrida, police said.

 

First responders treated the pedestrian at the scene before she was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh by Mobile Life Support Services ambulance.  She was subsequently transferred to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
