Former Middletown mayor dies

MIDDLETOWN – Former Middletown City Mayor Richard Hutchings died on November 25. He was 89 years old.

The lifelong area resident served as an alderman in the city for six years before being elected mayor and serving from 1981 to 1985. He was also chairman of the Middletown police commission.

Hutchings served in the Navy during the Korean War. Following his military service, his professional career spanned from an insurance claims adjustor to a licensed private investigator.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 2 at Our Lady of The Assumption Church, Bloomingburg. Burial will follow at Wallkill Cemetery in Middletown.
