LUMBERLAND – A 69-year-old Greely, Pennsylvania man was killed Saturday afternoon when his car struck a tree off Route 97 in the Town of Lumberland.

The one-car crash claimed the life of Michael Haas, said Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty.

Witnesses said a 2004 Chevrolet Corvette had been traveling southbound at a normal rate of speed at 3 p.m. when it suddenly crossed the double yellow line, spun around and struck a tree with the rear of the vehicle.

Haas was pronounced dead at the scene by County Coroner Alan Kesten.

A small dog, which was in the car, was uninjured.

The State Police, Lumberland, Highland Lake and Sparrowbush fire departments and Lumberland Ambulance Corps assisted at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
