TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A man is in the Town of Poughkeepsie Police custody after a brief car chase that ended at Kaal Rock in the City of Poughkeepsie.  He allegedly stole merchandise from the Home Depot in the town and fled in a vehicle that was stolen in the city on Monday.
Town police were alerted to a shoplifter that had taken merchandise from the North Road Home Depot on Tuesday afternoon.  A description of the man and the vehicle were broadcast to officers.  Moments later, a Town of Poughkeepsie cop spotted the vehicle on Route 9 and attempted, unsuccessfully, to stop the vehicle.
The officer radioed for assistance and police from the City of Poughkeepsie, MTA, and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office joined the operation.  The vehicle was located at the far north end of Kaal Rock Park in the city, and the suspect was located a short time later near the Poughkeepsie train station.
