POUGHKEEPSIE – United States Military Academy graduate and HERO program manager for MHA Dutchess Vet2Vet Alyssa Carrion, has been selected for induction into the State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. Senator Sue Serino (R-Hyde Park) announced the induction.

Every year, each state senator is given the opportunity to induct a local veteran into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame from the community they serve. The award recognizes those who have gone above and beyond not only in their military life but in their civilian life as well.  The 2021 inductee joins Dutchess County Director of Veterans Services Adam Roche, who was inducted by Serino in 2020.

Carrion graduated from the USMA in 2004 and served in the Army as an MP from 2004-2009. She deployed to Egypt in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006 as platoon leader in the 571st Military Police Company.

Her active duty assignments also included serving as operations officer for the 80th Ordnance Battalion and Executive Officer for the 508th MP Detachment.

Carrion transitioned to the Army Reserves where she reached the rank of captain.

In addition to her USMA education, the decorated veteran also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Washington and a Paralegal Certificate from Boston University.

“It is an absolute honor to have the opportunity to recognize a community hero like Alyssa for the amazing work she does every day to help support veterans here in our community and across the Hudson Valley,” said Senator Serino. “An incredible trailblazer for young female veterans, Alyssa goes above and beyond to ensure that our veterans have access to the resources they need to thrive and we are grateful for her selfless service.”

“This is such an amazing honor for me,” said Carrion.  “I absolutely love what I do here at Vet2Vet. To have our work recognized by Senator Serino is truly an honor.”

Carrion, a mother of two, manages the MHA Dutchess Vet2Vet “Housing, Employment, Reintegration, and Occupation” program, known as HERO.

The HERO program, funded by Dutchess County, is a way for county veterans and their families who are either homeless or facing homelessness to have an advocate and a resource in the county they live in. There are funds available for emergency housing, which can be used if necessary to keep veteran families safe and sleeping with a roof over their heads.
