KINGSTON – Ulster County Government and its sheriff’s employees have announced a tentative five-year contract agreement.

The Sheriff’s Employees Association represents the jail and civil staff and is the second largest labor union in the county, representing over 200 members in the sheriff’s office, including all jail correction officers.

The new agreement covers the perio0d from January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2024.

Members will receive a 3.5 percent wage increase for 2020, a 3.5 percent increase through 2021, and a two percent plus 25-cents per hour wage increase for the years 2022, 2023 and 2024.

“This new contract recognizes the hard work of our employees, especially given the challenges that they have faced since the outbreak of COVID-19,” said County Executive Patrick Ryan.

Union President Carel Soltys termed the contract “a very fair agreement that our membership was pleased with.”

Over 90 percent of the union membership ratified the agreement. The county legislature is expected to approve the pact at its November 16 regular monthly meeting.
