CARMEL – A 20-year-old Pawling man has been arrested by Carmel Police and charged with reckless driving and unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors, as well as a number of vehicle and traffic violations.

At about 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, an officer on patrol on Route 6 spotted a gray Nissan traveling eastbound committing several violations.

The officer instituted a traffic stop and as the car pulled over to the side of the road and as the officer approached the driver, whose name police did not make public, the car took off into the Lake Casse neighborhood.

The car was quickly discovered in a wooded area off Longdale Road after it struck a tree. Two passengers were detained, but the driver took off on foot.

Because of the proximity to the Fulmar Road School, the building was placed on lockdown as a precaution. The driver was apprehended a short time later with the help of Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies, State Police and the Mahopac Fire Department.

The driver was later arraigned and released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
