SAUGERTIES – A 38-year-old Town of Saugerties man has been arrested and charged with severely beating his domestic partner over suspicions of infidelity.
The victim reported to Saugerties Police that Stephen Bassile had beaten her in the presence of their children. She alleged he dragged her on the floor and then choked her until she lost consciousness.
When she came to, Bassile had left the residence, but was located a short time later and taken not custody.
Police charged him with assault, two counts of strangulation, and endangering the welfare of a child as a result of the incident that occurred during the late hours of October 23 and early morning hours of October 24.
Bassile was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
