GOSHEN – A week before election day, November 2, state GOP leaders gathered with regional Republicans in Goshen to urge voting against three propositions aimed at a voting rights.
Nick Langworthy, state GOP chairman, wants voters to say no to propositions 1,3 and 4, measures which would make amendments to the state constitution.
“There are propositions on the ballot which will fundamentally alter the way we run elections,” he said. “I believe they are an assault on election integrity in this state.”
Prop 1 would strip the independence from an independent districting commission, would cap the state senate at 63 and require those incarcerated to be counted at their last residence for redistricting.
Prop 3 would allow voters to register within 10 days of an election and allow for same day registration, and Prop 4 would allow for absentee balloting within a district.
“You have a stripping of the independence of our independent redistricting commission,” said Langworthy. “This is dead wrong with this Democrat power grab.”
Senator Mike Martucci, a Republican elected last year, joined his fellow party members Tuesday to urge against voting for these propositions.
“The propositions are important,” he said. “The voters in the state of New York, through a referendum, approved an independent redistricting process many years ago, and that’s a process to uphold and continue right now. Voters are sick and tired of partisan politics.”
