NEWBURGH – The Newburgh city cab driver who was shot to death Thursday night was believed to have been robbed by a group of men who shot and killed him during the course of the crime, city police said Friday.

When police were called to 144 North Miller Street at about 8:41 p.m., they found Jorge Arbayza De La Cruz, 51, of Newburgh, lying outside the Express Taxi he had been driving. He was unresponsive, unconscious and pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The city police Detective Division is handling the investigation along with the State Police, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The victim’s brother, Mario Arbayza De La Cruz told Mid-Hudson News he is offering a $10,000 reward leading to the capture of his brother’s killer.
