Several YMCA patrons treated at hospitals after chemical exposure

NEW ROCHELLE – A chemical exposure at the YMCA caused 13 patrons to be transported to local hospitals with symptoms of respiratory distress on Monday morning.

New Rochelle Police say that they responded, along with New Rochelle firefighters to the YMCA at 50 Weyman Avenue at 7:14 a.m. for reports of multiple people in respiratory distress due to chemical exposure.

The cause of the exposure is under investigation by New Rochelle Police Detectives and at this time, appears to be that an accidental mixture of chemicals that created a hazardous condition.  The mixed chemicals caused the 13 patrons to be treated at local hospitals. 

Current information indicates that this incident was indeed accidental and not criminal in nature.
