Westbrookville shooting scene (c)

DEERPARK – A man is in critical condition at Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill after being shot by a State Trooper on Sunday afternoon.  The shooting occurred after troopers had responded to a report of a domestic incident.

According to State Police, Troopers responded to a residence on State Route 209 near Jagger Drive in the Westbrookville area for a reported domestic incident.  The suspect in the domestic call fled the area and ran into the woods before police arrived.

Troopers located the man in nearby woods and he began firing a weapon at them.  Troopers returned fire, and at least one of the bullets struck the man.  A source told Mid-Hudson News that the subject sustained a gunshot wound to the neck.

The suspect was transported to the hospital.  No police were injured in the shootout.  The incident remains under investigation.
