Bethel woman charged with vehicular assault following Route 17B crash

BETHEL – A 40-year-old Town of Bethel woman has been arrested and charged with felony vehicular assault and driving while ability impaired following an accident on Route 17B.

State Police said Kassandra Demonda was driving west on Route 17B around 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 11 when her 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer crossed over a double yellow line and struck a 2019 Volkswagen heading east.

The VW driver, Holly Rubin, 38, of Woodcliff, New Jersey, was injured and transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill with non-life-threatening injuries. Two children, ages five and eight, were with her in her car. The eight-year-old was transported to Westchester Medical Center by helicopter in serious condition.

Demonda was arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash bail, $300,000 bond or $500,000 secured bond.
