Route 32 near Quaker Street in Cornwall washed out (c)

A bridge on Bull Road in Washingtonville fell victim to the heavy rains and raging flood waters of Tropical Storm Ida on Wednesday.

The bridge collapsed with a truck stuck in the sink hole. The driver was able to escape uninjured.

It took hours to remove the vehicle from the Moodna Creek below.

Meanwhile, a section of Route 32 at Quaker Avenue in the Town of Cornwall collapsed. Highway crews were on the scene on Thursday removing giant slabs of blacktop that had broken apart.

The impacts of the storm continued to be felt into late Thursday afternoon as fire departments across the region were called out to pump out flooded basements.
