GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus has announced that eight municipalities have been approved for a total of more than $2 million through the 2022 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Those awards will enable communities to address local needs by pursuing a variety of infrastructure, ADA accessibility and community development projects, he said.

“The county continues to partner with municipalities to ensure they can access the most effective resources, including federal grant programs,” Neuhaus said. “Through our Office of Community Development, we develop these meaningful partnerships and pursue high-impact projects that will better the lives of Orange County residents. Today’s Community Development Block Grants will help committed local leaders across the county improve drainage and roads, sewer and water systems, and ensure access to public facilities for everyone.”

The largest allocation, $800,000, is earmarked for the City of  Middletown to rehabilitate the O&W train station building. The multi-phased project involves the total rehabilitation of the three-story building into programming space for Agri-Business Child Development as well as other uses. Phase two of the project will use the HOME funds to develop eight workforce housing units.
