MONTICELLO – One day after Cresco Labs announced it will develop a medical and recreational cannabis facility in Ellenville, another company is exploring developing a similar facility in Sullivan County.
Cresco Labs wants to turn that Ellenville location into produce medical and recreation marijuana, creating about 300 jobs when the operation opens in late 2022 or sometime in the 2023.
Meanwhile, on Thursday Sullivan County Partnership President Marc Baez said the top official of the company interested in a Town of Thompson site off old Route 17 will be in town for direct talks.
“The CEO of the company will be coming in speaking with the town supervisor next week. We have a meeting to get a comfort level if the town can be accepting of the project, 80,000 square feet, 200 jobs. That is a nice investment in that corridor that we need to promote,” he said.
With the state’s legalization of cannabis, there is growing interest in growers, producers and distributors.
The site in the Ellenville area has been vacant for 17 years, and now Cresco Labs, which already produces medical marijuana, plans to spend $50 million to construct a 360,000 sq. ft. facility over 71 acres after going through the planning and permit process.
