GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus and Deputy County Clerk Kelly Eskew are reminding veterans and businesses about the county’s free Return the Favor Program and the free filing of DD-214s with the county clerk’s office.

“The Return the Favor Program benefits the participating merchants but, more importantly, helps our veterans and their spouses; another small way to thank them for their service to our country,” Neuhaus said. “We hope to grow and develop this program to reach as many veterans as possible. In addition, the filing of DD-214s with the clerk’s office is a convenience that can help veterans and their families keep this important document safe and accessible.”

He said Orange County is home to several thousand veterans, and the county will continue to provide them with the best services possible.

Veterans can go to the county clerk’s office for a Return the Favor card and businesses can support these brave men and women by joining the program and offering discounts. The participating vendor listing can be found at www.orangecountygov.com or at the county clerk’s office.

When military service is complete, a veteran can file their discharge papers (DD-214s) at the county clerk’s office and receive a certified copy if they ever need one. The clerk’s office has been filing military discharge papers since World War I.

“We are proud to extend both of these programs to veterans to continue to honor their service and sacrifices,” Eskew said. “The Return the Favor Program is a great opportunity for our veterans and our local businesses; and filing the DD-214 with the county clerk’s office is a smart and easy thing for veterans to do. With our office keeping it on file, you do not have to worry about misplacing this important document.”
