SUGAR LOAF – Vision Hudson Valley, formerly the Orange County Citizens Foundation, has named Sharon Soons as its new president and executive director. She previously served as chief operating officer of Soons Orchards in New Hampton.
“The search committee found the perfect candidate in Sharon as a successful entrepreneur with extensive non-profit experience,” said Board of Trustees Chairwoman Andrea Nilon. “Sharon has deep roots in the community and is eager to put her local knowledge and extensive skill set into action to propel VHV forward.”
Soon, a native of Orange County worked in New York City in the environmental non-profit field.
In 2004, she returned to the region and to her family’s farm – Soons Orchards – first as retail director and then chief operating officer.
She has volunteered with several boards and groups in the region.
She replaces Nancy Proyect, who earlier this year was named executive director of the Newburgh Armory Unity Center in the City of Newburgh.
