Trooper involved in Columbia County shooting

NEW LEBANON – A New York State Trooper was involved in a shooting Thursday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m. in the Columbia County town of New Lebanon.

State Police were called to a home on State Route 22 in the town of New Lebanon for a report of a suicidal person.  A preliminary investigation revealed during the Troopers’ interaction with the subject, the individual pointed a long gun at State Police members.

A Trooper fired his division-issued shotgun at the subject, striking the person in the abdomen.  Troopers rendered immediate medical attention and the victim was taken to Albany Medical Center.

No State Police members were injured during the incident.

State Police said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when it is available.
