POUGHKEEPSIE –  City police responded to a report of a man menacing another individual with a handgun on Winnikee Avenue on Tuesday at approximately 11:30 p.m.  A brief investigation led to the arrest of 38-year-old Poughkeepsie resident Reges Bellamy early Wednesday morning.

When police arrived at the scene, they determined that an argument between Bellamy and another person had taken place.  During the argument, Bellamy allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired one shot, and then fled on foot.  There were no apparent victims as a result of the gunshot.

City of Poughkeepsie Police Crime Scene Technicians arrived on the scene, located and collected evidence while Detectives conducted interviews. Through the course of the investigation, the suspect was identified as Bellamy.
Approximately two hours later, according to police officials, patrol officers observed Bellamy walking on N. White Street. The officers stopped Bellamy and a loaded Hi-Point .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun was located. He was taken into custody without incident.
Bellamy was processed and charged with the two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of misdemeanor menacing. Bellamy was transported to headquarters where he was booked and held for arraignment.
