KINGSTON – A Sunday night water main break on Lucas Avenue has caused the city’s water department to issue a “boil water advisory” on Monday.  The affected areas are outlined in the map below.

The city’s statement said the advisory “is being done out of an abundance of caution following a water main break on Lucas Avenue at Dunneman last evening.  Water service has been restored, but we are advising all residents in the impacted area to boil all water used for drinking or cooking for 2 minutes before consuming it.  The water is safe to use for bathing, showering, or other household uses.”

Water Department employees will be conducting tests on Monday afternoon and those impacted will be notified when it is safe to consume the water.  Please contact the city at 845-331-0205 for questions or concerns.  “We thank our customers for their patience and understanding,” said the statement.

The city also utilized a reverse 911 call to affected customers but noted that not all customers would receive the call.  “We have initiated a reverse 911 to all of our customers that were impacted.  However, unless you have provided the Water Department with a cell phone number or an email, this will only be transmitted to those with traditional landline telephones.  If you would like to be included in future notices about your drinking water, please provide us with a cell phone and/or email number and we will add it to our list.  You may do so by emailing the Department by calling our business office at 845-331-0175 or by emailing us at water@kingston-ny.gov.”

The break occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday and crews worked through the night, restoring service at approximately 5:30 a.m. Monday.
