MID-HUDSON – Happy Independence Day. It will be mostly sunny today with only a 24 percent chance of rain so the weather should cooperate for BBQs and other outdoor gatherings. Those should be made easier because of the COVID-19 vaccinations.

Today, being Sunday, means Monday is the legal holiday.

Celebrations take place around the region today.

At the New Windsor Cantonment and Knox’s Headquarters in New Windsor.

At the Cantonment, a military drill and cannon firing will be held at 2 p.m. followed by a children’s musket drill. At 2:45 p.m., a visitor assisted reading of the Declaration of Independence will be followed by another military demonstration.

At Knox’s Headquarters, house tours will be held at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. and the firing of a small cannon will be held at 1:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

Other July 4 activities and fireworks will be held around the region. Check your community’s website or Facebook page for details and have a safe and Happy Fourth of July!
