Port Jervis man arrested on weapons, drug charges

PORT JERVIS – Armed with two search warrants for apartments at the Port Jervis Townhouses at 111 Ryan Street, Port Jervis Police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group arrested a Port Jervis man on charges that he possessed an assault rifle, a large capacity ammunition feeding device, heroin, and drug paraphernalia.

The raids occurred on Tuesday, June 8 resulting in the arrest of Steven Velez, also known as “Shooter,” 30, on several charges of criminal possession of a weapon, possession of drugs with intent to sell them, and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

Police recovered a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol, an assault rifle, ammunition, heroin and packaging materials.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted in the investigation.

Velez was arraigned virtually and remanded to the Orange County Jail without bail.
