MID-HUDSON – Thunderstorms with torrential rains and strong winds rolled through the Hudson Valley Tuesday afternoon bringing down trees and power lines, and in some areas, caused flash flooding. Some areas lost power.

Rick Cozzaro and his wife had just pulled up to their 8 Carpenter Road house in Chester when a gigantic tree came crashing down on it, literally wiping out the entire back half of the building they occupied for over 20 years.

“It was very scary. You are in your driveway; you are minding your own business. The weather was bad then all of a sudden, God knows how much that tree weighed. It just took out my house,” he said.

Cozzaro said his two adult sons were home, fortunately in another part of the house. One son is autistic.

The family cat, Jinks, was killed in the crash.

The Chester Village Building Department ruled the house uninhabitable.
