Friday morning shooting kills one in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – An early morning shooting today (Friday) on Washington Street has claimed the life of a former Poughkeepsie resident.  The shooting occurred around 1:04 a.m. at 81 Washington Street.

Police officials say that a 21-year-old resident of North Carolina, who formerly lived in Poughkeepsie, was “hanging out” with friends on the back porch and back yard at 81 Washington Street when an unknown male fired shots into the gathering, striking the man.  The shooter, police say, was firing from Marshall Street.  Several shots were fired, according to Police Captain Rich Wilson.

The victim was transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

As of 8:30 a.m. on Friday, detectives were still canvassing the area of Washington and Marshall Streets.
