POUGHKEEPSIE – Former Poughkeepsie resident Charles D’Amico, 63, has lost the appeal of his manslaughter conviction in the strangulation death of Jill Meltzer in August 2017. She was 49 at the time of her death at the Hudson Harbour Apartments in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

D’Amico pled guilty to the manslaughter charge after initially being charged with murder.

In his appeal, he maintained his sentence of 23 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision was excessive.

The Appellate Division of State Supreme Court disagreed in a May 5 decision, saying the sentence imposed was not excessive.
