POUGHKEEPSIE – The Poughkeepsie Fire Department spent Wednesday evening assisting several members of a crew team when their boats capsized in the Hudson River, just north of the Walkway.

According to emergency personnel, there were more than 20 people in the water, clinging to the capsized vessels.  Many of the boaters were rescued by private boaters that were fishing nearby.  Poughkeepsie firefighters used one of their boats to rescue four of the boaters.
Witnesses say that several local high schools including Arlington and FD Rooseveltcrew teams had boats in the water at the time of the incident.  The names of the schools involved have not been released.
The Poughkeepsie Fire Department set up a warming station at the Ice House Restaurant at Waryas Park.  Multiple ambulances were requested to the scene to provide medical evaluations that unfolded shortly after 7 p.m.
