MONTICELLO – A Canadian company is eying land in the Town of Bethel for a new type of vacation experience – treehouse rentals.

It may not be a new idea in other areas, but Sullivan County Partnership President Marc Baez said it may be an opportunity for tourists to branch out their accommodations.

“If you want to become one with nature there is no better way to do it than to get in a tree and hang out with the people in the woods,” he said.

Baez said treehouses come with all kinds of amenities.

“Some of the concepts I have looked at, they have decks, and they have hot tubs and they have all kinds of things, but things like this are trending, going to experiential type development, which is really what the new traveling public seems to be looking for,” he said.

This particular proposal would be built on an 800-acre parcel.
