FISHKILL – As the re-purposing of abandoned shopping areas become a common theme in many communities, Dutchess Community College is readying a former department store at the former Dutchess Mall in Fishkill for fall classes.

DCC@Fishkill will serve regional residents this fall after the community college moved this part of its campus from Wappingers Falls to this location not far from the Putnam County line.

“We’re very excited to be moving in here,” said Gail Glover, the director of communications and public relations at SUNY Dutchess.

“We are going to be focusing on providing education and opportunity to the regional course for students to come and take classes here. We are really looking at serving the adult population, adult learners, so we are very excited to be talking about hospitality and tourism in this facility, criminal justice and programs like that,” she said. “We were looking for a way to be able to serve our community, county and the region more effectively and we felt this facility was going to give us that versatility.”

Furniture is now being moved into the 47,000 sq. ft., two-story campus building.
