TOWN OF ULSTER – Hundreds of Ulster County residents, healthcare workers and volunteers will be further protected from the coronavirus as the PBA of New York State has donated a large quantity of hand sanitizer for the county vaccination center at the former Best Buy space in the Hudson Valley Mall in the Town of Ulster.

Statewide PBA President Ryan Law said they are delivering portions of the donated PPE to counties around the state.

“We know that PPE is very valuable to our police officers within the PBA who are working most of these sites, and of course our healthcare workers, the volunteer workers, the National Guard,” he said. “We ae hoping that everybody gets a piece of the PPE to further protect them as we still fight this virus,” he said.

State Senator Michelle Hinchey (D, Saugerties) helped arrange the Ulster donation.

“The pandemic, in the darkest of times, we have seen some of the brightest spots in our communities really stepping up and coming together and we have seen the best of our society and the best of our community in these moments, which has really made this pandemic manageable,” she said.

County Executive Patrick Ryan tipped his hat to the PBA.

“Our workers, our staff and hundreds of volunteers now can feel safe and protected and supported, literally doing that life-saving work, so, gentlemen and ladies, thank you. It sends a message beyond just the giving of PPE, but really saying we have your backs and so, we thank you, we have your backs as well as you do your work,” Ryan said.

SUNY Chancellor James Malatras of Ellenville, representing the SUNY police force, said the PPE donation is a symbol of “the community coming together.”
