ALBANY – The State Department of Tax and Finance will extend the New York income tax deadline to May 17 to align with the federal decision to push its filing deadline back to the same date.

“This 30-day extension provides New Yorkers still coping with the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic ample time to file,” said State Budget Director Robert Mujica, Jr.

“This will shift approximately $6 billion of revenue from April to May and the state will make any necessary adjustments to cashflow,” he said.

Just the day before the administration announced the one-month extension to the state tax filing deadline, Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) urged the governor to push it back to conform with the federal delay.
