POUGHKEEPSIE – An early morning traffic stop in Poughkeepsie has resulted in the arrest of a man and an illegal handgun being taken off the streets.
City police pulled a vehicle over on North Hamilton Street near High Street around 3 a.m. Sunday for a traffic violation. The vehicle was not legally registered.
During the resulting investigation, an occupant of the vehicle was arrested on felony charges of criminal possession of a weapon.
Officers recovered a highly concealable loaded .380 semi-automatic Jiminez Arms pistol in the possession of 22-year-old Dimitri Jaques-Louis. The pistol is marketed by the Nevada-based gun manufacturer as an “inexpensive pocket pistol” with a retail value of $100.
Jaques-Louis was taken into custody by the City of Poughkeepsie PD, processed at headquarters, and held pending arraignment on the charges.
