NEWBURGH – About a dozen people gathered outside 135 William Street in the City of Newburgh, to call for answers as to how a seven-year-old boy died there.

The neighborhood residents, Sunday night, brought balloons and candles in memory of the child, who was a Temple Hill Elementary School student.

Police were notified last Wednesday that the child was brought to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital by private vehicle. He was pronounced dead there and authorities continue to investigate to determine the cause.

Investigators are tight lipped about the cause and have not released the boy’s name or any circumstances about the case.

District Attorney David Hoovler has said the death is being investigated as “neglect and a potential crime.”
