NEWBURGH – Three individuals at the main campus of Newburgh Free Academy have tested positive for COVID-19, school officials announced.

They learned of the test results on Monday, January 25.

Citing privacy considerations, district spokeswoman Cassie Sklarz could not say if those infected were students or staff.

A written statement from the district said two individuals have not been present in school; the third was last present in school on January 22.

“Children and/or staff that were in direct or proximate contact with the positive case will be contacted by district staff and/or Orange County Department of Health and will be instructed to quarantine,” the district said.

Sklarz could not say in what areas of the building the individuals may have been, but one source said the person was in the cafeteria and that it was closed for sanitizing purposes.
