TOWN OF WALLKILL – A Town of Wallkill Police officer has been charged with assault and official misconduct for allegedly using excessive force on a suspect.
Police Chief Robert Hertman said a social media post depicted Officer Daniel Traum-Steinberg sweeping the legs from under a handcuffed suspect.
An investigation by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office led to Traum-Steinberg’s arrest on two counts of assault and one count of official misconduct, both misdemeanors.
He was issued an issue appearance ticket returnable to Wallkill Town Court.
