ALBANY – The state has approved the resumption of all interscholastic sports effective February 1. Like some many other activities, they were put on hold because of the pandemic.

Days ago, State Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (R, New Windsor) rallied fellow public officials and school participants to lobby for resumption of those activities. He announced at that time that legislation was being introduced to allow those activities to resume.

Now, on Friday, all school sports, including those designated as “high risk,” got the go-ahead.

“I want to thank the parents, coaches, and students who joined this effort and helped advocate for our children to have the same opportunity as those in more than 34 other states.  This truly demonstrates that, when people join together to advocate for what’s right, we can make a real difference,” Schmitt said.
