WEST POINT – A total of 73 cadets at the US Military Academy at West Point have been charged with cheating on a calculus exam taken online in May.

Cadets have been studying remotely because of the coronavirus pandemic.

All but one of the students were freshmen while the other was a sophomore.

Four of the cadets resigned and two cases were dropped for lack of evidence, officials said.

Of the remaining 67 cadets, 55 admitted to cheating and were enrolled in a six-month rehabilitation program on ethics. They will be on probation for the duration of their college career at the academy.

This cheating scandal is the biggest at West Point since 1976, when 153 cadets either resigned or were expelled for cheating on an electrical engineering test.
