WHITE PLAINS – The leader of the G-Shine Bloods gang has been sentenced to 20 years to life in state prison for the shooting outside the Garden Bar in Mount Vernon in 2016.

Jason Garcia, also known as Mecca-J, 37, of Mount Vernon, was sentenced on charges of attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

“Putting Jason Garcia away for 20 years to life is a major blow to the gangs at the heart of so many street shootings and other violence in our cities,” said Westchester District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. “This was a strong investigation into this criminal and the havoc he has caused in Mount Vernon and elsewhere.”

Garcia’s co-defendant, Matthew Brown, was previously sentenced to 20 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.

Garcia was also indicted for attempted murder of an eyewitness to the Garden Bar shooting.

While in the Westchester County Jail, Garcia conspired with Brown, Laquanna Kershaw, Cassaundra Dunham and Damen Rickard to murder the eyewitness.
