FISHKILL – Firefighters from several departments battled a house fire Tuesday night that resulted in one occupant being airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with severe burns, while other members of the household were transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

At 11:59 pm Tuesday, the Rombout Fire Department was dispatched to 233 Baxtertown Road for a reported structure fire.  Firefighters arrived at the single-family home and found it engulfed in flames.  Additional manpower and equipment from the Fishkill, Glenham, East Fishkill, New Hackensack, and Hughsonville departments were summoned to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

An adult son of the homeowners suffered second and third-degree burns, requiring him to be airlifted to Westchester Medical Center.  Other occupants of the residence were treated and transported to the hospital by Mobile Life medics.

A pet dog perished in the fire.

Dutchess County’s Fire Investigation Division is investigating the cause and origin of the fire that destroyed the home.  The Fishkill Police and New York State Troopers also provided assistance at the scene.
