NEW ROCHELLE – Two people were mugged in New Rochelle on Saturday, October 31.

Police said one assault, on a 53-year-old woman, occurred around 7:25 a.m. opposite 138 North Avenue.

The victim sustained several lacerations to her head and face.

She told police she was walking on North Avenue when she was approached by an unknown man about 35 to 40 years old and wearing a grey sweatshirt. The man was mumbling and began to strike her repeatedly on the head and face until she fell to the ground.

The victim was able to walk home and call police and was then transported to New Rochelle Montefiore Hospital where she was treated for a concussion, multiple head lacerations and received six staples.

Police said while they were checking for the suspect, it was determined that a second assault had occurred in the same area, but the victim, a man, had left the area before officers arrived.

Both assaults appeared to be random and violent in nature, investigators said.

On November 1 at about 1:45 a.m., Yousef Alomari, 34, of New Rochelle, appeared at police headquarters, surrendered and was charged with assault.
