KINGSTON – With two days of early voting left, State Supreme Court Justice Lisa Fisher has extended the hours to cast ballots in Ulster County.

Because of long lines at the five polling locations, the county Democratic Committee filed a lawsuit calling for extended hours and additional sites.

Justice Fisher ruled to extent the hours on the last two days, but did not add any more locations.

On Saturday, the hours will be extended from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Sunday, the new hours will be 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. They were previously scheduled to be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The court decision is a win for county voters, said County Executive Patrick Ryan. “No voter should have to wait hours just to cast their ballots,” he said. “As we continue to see a historic surge in voter participation, this ruling will undoubtedly allow greater access to the polls.
