GOSHEN – A Montgomery husband and wife have been charged in a felony complaint with first-degree criminal possession of drugs for having 52.1 ounces of cocaine and just under $1.2 million in cash at their home on Loch Lane in Montgomery on October 21.

Both Marius Schwerberg, 63, and Nancy Schwerberg, 43, were arrested in New Jersey where they are facing charges pending extradition to New York. The investigation related to the trafficking of large amounts of cocaine in Morris County, New Jersey.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said that is the largest amount of cash recovered during a narcotics search warrant in the county’s history.

When investigators executed that warrant, they also seized 1,485 grams of cocaine; 17 pounds of marijuana with a street value of over $180,000; items used for cutting, weighing and repackaging cocaine; and a loaded handgun.

The arrest warrant for Marius Schwerberg charged him with operating as a major drug trafficker. Nancy Schwerberg was charged with drug possession.

The charges were the result of a joint operation between the New Jersey State Police, and the New York State Police, Troop F Violent Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team, aided by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

“This case shows that major narcotics trafficking is not just confined to urban areas,” said Hoovler. “We will have these defendants brought to Orange County to face charges as soon as possible. Narcotics are destroying the very fabric of our communities and those who reap large profits from narcotics trafficking must be severely punished. It is only when law enforcement agencies work collaboratively that large scale narcotics operations can be disrupted.”

If convicted on the major trafficker charge, Marius Schwerberg could face between 25 years to life in prison. If convicted on the drug charge, Nancy Schwerberg could face up to 20 years in state prison.
