FISHKILL – The surge in online purchasing has resulted in Gap Inc. to hire 1,400 new employees for the holiday season at its Fishkill distribution center.

Jobs will include packing, assembling merchandise, and preparing orders for shipment.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said the face of retail is changing.

“Post-COVID or post-pandemic, or as try to crawl our way back out of the economic slump, we recognize, and they do too, that direct fulfillment is important,” he said. “You are just not going to see the same kind of in-store retail that we had seen years ago, and was certainly on the decline to begin with, but the pandemic and our response to it has accelerated that and this location becomes that much more critical.”

Company officials said they are providing more flexibility to work this holiday season. “Flex” employees will have the ability to choose which hours during the day, night and weekends they prefer to work, with the option to work more hours if they want.

The company is also upping all starting rates by $1 for new full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees. The increase was effective on October 18.

The company will be hiring virtually, allowing applicants to apply online for any role in three minutes or less by visiting www.jobs.gapinc.com/seasonal.
