ALBANY – Four of the 21 firefighters to have died in the line of duty and whose names were added to the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial were residents of the greater Hudson Valley.

The local firefighters whose names have been added to the Memorial Wall this year are:

Ronald Hinkle, a member of Loch Sheldrake Fire Co. #1, (Sullivan) who died on October 17, 2017

Kenneth Larkin, a member of Pleasant Valley Fire Co. #1, (Dutchess) who died on September 21, 1938

Robert Mentrasi, a member of the Fairview Fire Department (Westchester) who died on April 14, 2017

S. Bertrand Van Amburgh, a member of the Pleasant Valley Fire Co. #1 (Dutchess) who died on April 7, 1977

With the addition of the names of the 21 fallen firefighters, the Fallen Firefighters Memorial now honors 2,596 individuals who lost their lives in the line of duty. The Fallen Firefighters Memorial, dedicated in 1998, honors the memory and valor of New York’s fallen firefighters each October. The memorial also pays tribute to the more than 100,000 New York State active firefighters who risk their lives every day to protect New Yorkers.
