POUGHKEEPSIE – Republican Poughkeepsie Mayor Robert Rolison will not be allowed to present a brief report at common council sessions any longer since Council Chair Sarah Salem, a Democrat, announced the decision on Monday night.

The council majority is Democrat and Salem said the decision would be the same even if the mayor was a Democrat.

“These are our legislative sessions. This is our time to entertain resolutions, motions, legislation, have discussion, and invite members of the administration, the mayor’s office and other representatives to come speak at meetings when needed when necessary,” the chair said.

Salem did say that if the mayor signed up to speak during the public comment period, he would be welcomed to do so.
