Mother arrested for endanger the welfare of child

SAUGERTIES – Sarah Silnovich of Saugerties has been arrested by police after an incident in which she allegedly choked her 10-year-old daughter.

According to Police Chief Joseph Sinagra, officers responded to 6 Costello Court on Monday at 9:05 pm for a complaint that a child had been assaulted. The complaint alleges that 42-year-old Silinovich placed her hands around the neck of her child and then proceeded to forcefully slam the child’s head against the ground multiple times.

Silinovich was taken into custody and charged with the misdemeanor of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and the violation of Harassment in the second degree.

Diaz paramedics treated the child at the scene and transported the girl to Kingston Hospital for further evaluation.

Silinovich was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Justice Court and was released on her own recognizance.

The court issued a “Full Stay Away Order of Protection” on behalf of the young victim. Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.
