State Police remember comrade killed 14 years ago while serving with the Marines in Iraq

KINGSTON – State Police, Sunday, remembered Trooper John McKenna IV, who was killed while serving as a captain in the Marines outside the Iraqi city of Fallujah.

McKenna died at the age of 30 on August 16, 2006 while serving as a captain and platoon commander of Company B, 1srt Battalion, 25th Marines when he was shot by enemy sniper fire.

McKenna joined the State Police on February 14, 2005 and was assigned to Troop F at Kingston at the time of his recall to military duty.

He had served 18 months with the State Police and previously served on active duty in Afghanistan and Iraq with the Marine Corps from June  1998 to August 2003.
