HUDSON – A woman, who was away on vacation, was able to alert police that burglars had broken into her home thanks to her phone app security camera system.

The homeowner received a notification that her home security cameras had been activated.

She called Hudson City Police telling them she saw a male and female breaking into her home on lower Union Street through a kitchen window.

Police arrived shortly after they received the homeowner’s call around 6:30 p.m. on July 10 and caught the pair inside the residence. The proceeds of the burglary were recovered and the two suspects, 16 and 17, were each charged with felony burglary, and criminal mischief and petit larceny, as misdemeanors.

Their names were withheld because of their ages.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Hudson City Police Detective Division assisted in the investigation.
